The location is lovely with an easy elegant vibe. With the great drinks, food and service, it’s just what the city needs. I’m definitely returning, writes Tara Bose Kapur
Soho House was founded in 1995 (of course in Soho, London!) is a members-only social club and has grown into a community of creative-minded individuals with houses in the UK, Europe and North America. It offers bedrooms, apartments, lofts and cabins, at the beach, in the city and in the countryside, for short and long stays.
Soho House Mumbai opened in Juhu in November, it’s the first in Asia and true to its ethos, suits and stuffiness are not welcome. It’s a space to work, meet, eat, drink and relax.
Set in a 10-storey building directly overlooking Juhu Beach, the Mumbai House has 38 bedrooms, a library, members floor, gym, rooftop pool, a 32-seat screening room and two restaurants – Cecconi’s Mumbai and an all-day café.
We made a dinner reservation at Cecconi’s and were pleasantly surprised to see that our young teen is allowed. Also, when I requested a reservation for 8:30 pm, I wasn’t told that the next booking is at 10 pm so you must vacate… very different from some other restaurants.
Cecconi’s describes itself as a modern, classic Italian restaurant. On the ground floor, by the beach, it has a covered area and an al fresco area. A large bar on one side and a cosy welcoming chic ambience.
The bar menu is large but we had our sights set on the Aperol Spritzer (Venice #throwback) which was excellent!
When the staff came to take our food order, they asked if any of us had allergies. When I said yes, my son has some food allergies, he called the chef, Gautam, who helped us with the order. Here’s what we ate:
Calamari Fritters – good
Tuna Tartare (prepared table side on a trolly) – amazing
Parma Ham Pizzete with burrata and rocket -divine
Pork Belly – yummy
Red Snapper with olives – excellent
We were too full to eat dessert. The service was prompt and of a high standard.
The location is lovely with an easy elegant vibe. With the great drinks, food and service, it’s just what the city needs. I’m definitely returning.
